Terrain and Map Data

This page lists the third-party terrain, map and seabed data used in Sandbox, and acknowledges its providers.

Seabed

Global seabed

Global seabed depths are derived from the GEBCO_2022 Grid. GEBCO Bathymetric Compilation Group 2022 (2022). The GEBCO_2022 Grid - a continuous terrain model of the global oceans and land. NERC British Oceanographic Data Centre, DOI.

In European waters the global seabed is refined with EMODnet Bathymetry Consortium (2022). EMODnet Digital Bathymetry (DTM 2022). EMODnet Bathymetry Consortium, available from the EMODnet Bathymetry portal under the CC BY 4.0 license.

Barrow Island

Seabed bathymetry around Barrow Island is derived from the North West Shelf bathymetry compilation by Lebrec, U., Paumard, V., O’Leary, M. and Lang, S. (2021), University of Western Australia and Geoscience Australia, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Around Barrow Island the seabed is also blended with the GEBCO_2026 Grid. GEBCO Bathymetric Compilation Group 2026 (2026). The GEBCO_2026 Grid - a continuous terrain model for oceans and land at 15 arc-second intervals. NERC EDS British Oceanographic Data Centre NOC, DOI.

The data has been resampled and blended with other bathymetry and elevation data for visualization.

Land elevation

Global land elevation includes data from:

  • The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), provided by NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey, DOI 10.5066/F7PR7TFT.

  • NASA/METI/AIST/Japan Spacesystems and U.S./Japan ASTER Science Team (2019). ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model V003. NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center, DOI.
